The Simplest Way to Update Your Bedroom Decor

Although our bedroom is a space in our homes that not many guests get to see,  for most of us is it our little home haven. It's where we unwind at the end of every day and it's where we spend time away from the outside world. Ideally, our bedrooms should be an extension of ourselves, but if your most sacred space isn't feeling like it yet, then it's time for a much needed update.

Quick and Easy Ways to Update Your Bedroom

Updating your bedroom can feel like a challenging task, but it's actually not such a difficult thing to do if you start with making small changes that won't overwhelm you. You don't have to do a big renovation to refresh your bedroom, especially if it's not in the budget yet or if you don't have enough time to take on a huge project yet. Try out the following simple tips:

1. Create Complementary Patterns

There is actually no rule if you want to introduce more patterns into your bedroom space. You can go all out and mix & match different colours and patterns to achieve a more eclectic feel. Or, you can add in two to three patterns or textures if you have plain walls.

If you're going for the second option, try to group two to three patterns together. For example, try mixing and matching stripes, polka dots, and a floral pattern together. They could look good as throw pillows on your bed.

The important thing is you know the look you want to achieve, then you go from there.

2. Go Neutral with a Pop of Your Favourite Colour

You can really play around with this. If your room already has plenty of neutral colours, and you would like to spice it up a bit, you can add in pops of your favorite colours like pink, orange, blue, or green. Choose one or two central items that can really catch your eyes - add a bright orange ottoman, pink lamps, or a vase of fresh flowers.

3. Add an Indoor Plant in for a Homely Feel

Who doesn't love plants? They'll bring a bit of freshness to your space instantly. If you're just a beginner with house plants, start with indoor ones that don't really require a lot of maintaining. Try out the following:

  • Devil's Ivy
  • Cast Iron Plant
  • Zanzibar Gem
  • Rubber Plant
  • Silver Snake Plant
  • Peace Lily

If you don't have enough time to take care of plants, you can always go for dried foliage for a more boho feel. Dried foliage can be very versatile as it has different kinds. You can let your creativity take over whether you want a more neutral arrangement with small bits of colours here and there, or you want something simple.

4. Base your Colours from Your Artwork

If paintings are your thing, then you can definitely draw your inspiration and colour palette from them. Match some of the colours of the elements in your room with the colour of your painting. For example, if you have an artwork with muted colours, try adding in curtains of the same muted colour.
